She moved to Bristol in the early 1950’s
and was educated at Clifton High School and at Avery
College, London. In
1971 Ros married Martyn and they came to live in
Portishead.
She took up an appointment as a mathematics
teacher at Gordano School.
Ros taught there until her children were
born, returning in the capacity of a supply teacher
when they went to school.
In 1988 Ros left teaching in order to be able
to spend more time on Family Matters and her Council
work. Ros

Association and was delighted when the Twinning with
Den Dungen took place and later that with Schweich. In
the last few years, Ros has served on the Chamber of
Trade and is currently treasurer.

on the Portishead Partnership. First elected to Portishead Town Council to represent West Ward in 1987, Ros has served for three terms. Councillor Sue Mason (Liberal Democrat) West Ward Portishead and North Weston
I have lived in Portishead since 1976. My children attended playschools at Avonway Hall and Redcliffe Bay Hall following by High Down Infant and Junior Schools, Gordano School and then University. They are now working.
During my working life I have worked in the City of London, Chelmsford and Witham in Essex, Bristol and Portishead. I now work part-time in Clevedon.
I have travelled to work by tube, train, bus and car and so am aware of the frustrations and problems of commuting.
I was elected as a Liberal Democrat Town Councillor for West Ward in a by-election in June 2001 and currently represent the Town Council on the Redcliffe Bay Hall Management Committee. I am an LEA appointed Governor at High Down Infant School and am currently Chair of the Governors and a member of the Premises and Health and Safety Committee and the Policy Committee.
My other activities include – Senior Steward at Redcliffe Bay Methodist Church, Trustee of the Bristol Trust for the Deaf, Member of the National Trust, Member of the National Womens Register (for lively minded women) and a past committee member of the Redcliffe Bay Friends of Guiding.

Councillor Colin Howells - (Liberal Democrat ) West Ward Portishead
Colin has had links with Portishead for more than 50 years. His wife, Elizabeth, was born here and before arriving in 1984, they lived in Coombe Dingle in Bristol. Colin was born and brought up in Bristol. Since then, they have lived in Lower Down Road and Hillcrest Road. Their two children went to High Down and then Gordano School. His wife is an Assistant Leader with the Girl Guides and his daughter Lindsay is a Leader with the Brownies. Their autistic son, Christopher, attends the Scotch Horn Day Centre in Nailsea. He was appointed as a Magistrate on the Bristol Bench in 2002. This, besides his many years' experience as a Branch Secretary for UNITE Trade Union, has given Colin a very real concern and understanding of the problems of the 21st Century. He has always been involved in local life; in fact he first raised concerns about the increase in housing and resulting lack of infrastructure in 1997. He is a supporter of the Portishead Railway Group and a Governor at High Down Junior School. He campaigned with friends at High Down School to have a pedestrian crossing installed outside the school, on Down Road, thus curing a major traffic hazard. He believes strongly in supporting voluntary organisations. He has been a supporter of the Cabstand protest and believes that the M5 junction 19 requires a permanent solution rather than the proposed changes. He is also campaigning for the re-introduction of the Portishead to Bristol railway line. In 2006 he wrote to everyone in authority about the Severn Barrage, as an alternative energy source. He said: "We haven't heard much about it lately, but it is still very much in peoples' minds." It now appears to be back on the political agenda. Colin was elected Liberal Democrat Town Councilor for West Ward in June 2006 and re-elected in May 2007.
