North Somerset Local Plan - Portishead Response: Live Discussion on March 4
Residents of Portishead are urged to take part in a crucial discussion about the future of their town as part of the North Somerset Local Plan.
A Live Panel Discussion will be held on Tuesday 4 March at 19:00, providing an opportunity for the community to voice concerns and gain insight into proposals that could shape Portishead's development for the next 15 years.
A key point of contention is the proposed development on Green Belt land near Weston Big Wood, a site of special scientific interest (SSSI) and home to ancient woodland dating back to the Ice Age. The proposal has raised significant environmental and community concerns, making public engagement more critical than ever.
The live discussion will feature a panel, including:
• Chris Sperring MBE – Environmentalist and wildlife expert
• Cllr Peter Burden – North Somerset Councillor
• Cllr Paul Gardner – Portishead Town Councillor
• Paul Churchill – Local campaigner
Members of the community are encouraged to submit questions in advance by emailing savewestonbigwood@gmail.com and the discussion will be broadcast live on Facebook at www.facebook.com/portisheadtc.
"This is a pivotal moment for Portishead's future," said a spokesperson for the event. "We need as many voices as possible to ensure that decisions about development respect our environment and community needs."
Residents, environmental advocates, and local stakeholders are invited to join the conversation and make their opinions heard.
