Portishead Town Council Opposes Bristol Airport Expansion
Following a meeting organised by Portishead Town Council (PTC) to discuss the Bristol Airport Masterplan, PTC has strongly objected to Bristol Airport's plan to increase capacity to 15 million passengers per year—just two years after approval for 12million.
Key Concerns:
- Inadequate Public Transport – Bristol Airport is the UK's worst connected airport. No mass transit system means more congestion and pollution.
- Environmental Damage – Loss of 33 hectares of land for car parking threatens biodiversity.
- Health Impacts – Increased air and noise pollution linked to serious health risks.
- Climate Change Conflict – Expansion contradicts UK Climate Change Committee recommendations.
PTC urges Bristol Airport to prioritise sustainable transport and environmental responsibility before any further expansion.
