The Portishead Book of Remembrance has been created by Portishead Town Council as part of its observance of the 100th anniversary of the Armistice of 1918. Its aim is to remember those who lost their lives either as a result of hostilities, or in public service, whether military or civilian, from 1914 to the present.
It is hoped to give more information than in many books of remembrance. A brief history is given below each of the names, where it is available. This gives a greater understanding of the tragedies that happened, not only in Portishead, but all over Europe and beyond.
The Book is a work in progress and new information can be added. Let us hope that few new entries will be required in the future.
