Sport and Leisure

Portishead has many sport and leisure facilities.

Parish Wharf Leisure Centre, situated in Harbour Road, was partly funded by the National Lottery, along with funds from the town council and North Somerset Council. The multi-use complex includes a large swimming pool, leisure and play pool, a large sports hall, fully equipped gym, indoor bowls, badminton courts, fitness class studio, a toddlers' fun room and a café area.

Another large sports complex is the Gordano School Community Trust Sports Centre, based at Gordano School. Used by the school, but open to the public outside school hours, the centre boasts two sports halls and a gym, as well as outdoor courts and pitches that include a floodlit all weather Astro Turf pitch.

Portishead Town Football Club, in Bristol Road, is home to a large number of teams, both junior and senior, and Gordano Rugby Club sits just outside Portishead, in Portbury.

A number of independent gyms and fitness centres also serve Portishead.

Portishead Lake Grounds is a popular beauty spot, ideal for both sport and leisure. The open green space is popular for picnics alongside the play equipment for small children, public gym apparatus, tennis courts and cricket pitch. The lake itself provides an ideal opportunity to feed the ducks or take out a rowing boat. The Lake Grounds is also home to Portishead Bowls Club and an outdoor swimming pool. The heated outdoor pool, with sun terraces, has undergone extensive refurbishment since it opened in 1962. In 2009 the pool was saved from closure by the community and is now run by a community trust.

Details of many of the numerous sport and leisure clubs and activities that operate in and around Portishead can be found in the directory section of this website.
